Ephemeral leader of Serie A at the start of the season, Udinese has since come down from its pedestal. Now placed back in the middle of the ranking, Florian Thauvin’s team was until Monday evening trapped in a negative spiral. But thanks to their success at Monza (1-2), the visitors can breathe easy.

Four defeats and a draw in their last five matches, the Udinese players were counting on this trip to the penultimate in the standings to get their heads above water. So they succeeded and it was they who opened the scoring with a goal from Lorenzo Lucca (0-1, 6th). Returning from the locker room, Giorgos Kyriakopoulos brought Monza back up to par (1-1, 47th).

Bijol offers victory to Udine

But too fragile, the locals broke down a second and final time, allowing Jaka Bijol to score the winning goal for Udinese (1-2, 70th). Thanks to its sixth success in fifteen championship matches, the Udine club moves back into ninth position. As for Monza, this seventh defeat leaves it in nineteenth place.
