Despite being one of only two senior centre-backs currently available, Vallejo is not being considered by Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Raul Asencio and Aurelien Tchouameni are both ahead of him in the pecking order, while David Alaba is expected to return soon from the ACL injury that kept him out of action for 12 months.
Vallejo pushed out
For this reason, it is perhaps no surprise that ED reported that Real Madrid were open to selling Vallejo in January. The 27-year-old will expire at the end of the season, but the club are willing to let him leave early as long as an acceptable offer arrives.
Rayo Vallecano want to sign Vallejo, but if they fail to reach an agreement with Real Madrid next month, their plan would be to offer him a pre-contract, which would see him move to Vallecas from next summer.
