It’s one of the good surprises of the season. Faced with the avalanche of injuries in the Madrid squad, especially in the defensive sector, Carlo Ancelotti decided to call on Raul Asencio, a 21-year-old central defender who previously played with Real Madrid Castilla. Since his debut against Osasuna in November, he has produced more than satisfactory copies, with this 2-0 success at home against Getafe as his most successful performance. Very complementary with Antonio RĂĽdiger, hard on the man and rather good at restarts, the Spaniard is a delight. So much so that his emergence would have finally convinced the Madrid leaders not to recruit a central defender in winter as was originally planned.
But, there is a “but”. And not least. You have noticed that Asencio is regularly whistled and jeered at when the Merengues play on the road. And it is because he would be involved, with other teammates of the time, in a story which caused a lot of talk in Spain and for which he had been arrested by the Guardia Civil. Justice is investigating the recording and then broadcast of a sexual video of a woman’s sexual antics to around thirty people, and Asencio is one of the players involved. Worse, this woman was a minor at the time of the events, which puts this story in the criminal category of child pornography.
A sad affair
According to the Iberian press, the role of the defender in this case dating back to June 2023 was to participate in the dissemination of the video in WhatsApp groups, not being a priori involved in its recording. The case is still in its investigation phase, so he has not yet been found guilty or innocent of anything. However, it is curious to note that the three other Real Madrid players who were suspected in this affair are no longer at the club currently. As indicated Relevoone of the players in question, Ferran Ruiz, signed for Girona last summer, and has a clause in his contract that will allow the Catalan club to fire him without compensation in the event that he is convicted.
While awaiting progress from the Spanish justice system on this subject, Raul Asencio will continue his progress and the future looks particularly promising for him.
