José Mourinho, who arrived with great fanfare at Fenerbahçe last June, is facing increasing pressure after lackluster results in the Süper Lig. Despite an honorable second place in the standings, defeats against Galatasaray (1-3) and Besiktas (1-0) amplified the criticism against him. The “Special One”, true to his style, responds by denouncing an environment that he considers hostile and an instability harmful to Turkish football.

“Give me some credit”

Mourinho did not mince his words after the defeat to Besiktas, saying: “The worst team won. We deserved at least a draw.” While his provocative statements multiply, his team struggles to convince, with only eight points obtained out of fifteen possible in the Europa League. A competition that he considers as an objective to save the season.

Despite a squad reinforced by recruits like Youssef En-Nesyri and Çağlar Söyüncü, Fenerbahçe is also marked by its elimination in the Champions League play-offs by LOSC. For Mourinho, stability remains key. “No coach can accomplish miracles in a few months”underlines the Portuguese. But in Türkiye, where derbies are almost as important as the title, fans’ patience is starting to wear thin.
