In difficulty this season in the jersey of Paris Saint-Germain, Gianluigi Donnarumma sees his future becoming uncertain. While his contract runs until June 2026, discussions for an extension have stalled, mainly due to his disappointing performances and his weakened status within the team.

Competition and performance in question

Since the start of the season, Luis Enrique has created competition in the Parisian cages by giving playing time to Matvey Safonov and even considering calling on Arnau Tenas. Result: Donnarumma was relegated to the bench in the Champions League, against Bayern Munich. These decisions reflect a lack of confidence in the Italian goalkeeper, who has conceded 5 goals from the last 7 shots on target.

According to RMC Sportthe hesitation of Parisian leaders to extend Donnarumma’s contract is also due to financial reasons. His salary, reaching one million euros gross per month, is considered excessive given his performance on the ground.

Towards a departure this summer?

Sporting uncertainty and financial blockages open the door to a possible departure. In Italy, the media are talking about a possible break between Donnarumma and PSG, especially if the situation does not improve by next summer. For the moment, neither side has made a final decision, but tensions around his status as number 1 complicate the future of the captain of the Nazionale.
