Kylian Mbappé’s troubles with Real Madrid are not yet over. While we thought he was back on track after his nice goal against Getafe last weekend, the Bondynois got back into trouble this Wednesday.
Mbappé still can’t do it
On the pitch at San Mames in Bilbao, the Frenchman drowned again. His Madrid team conceded their second setback of the season (1-2) in La Liga and it was largely their fault. At the 68e minute, he had the ball for the equalizer at the end of a penalty. But, and as was already the case last week against Liverpool in the Champions League, he missed it.
With a dubious run-up, the Frenchman gave too many indications to his opposite number. He chose the axis and, unfortunately, Julen Agirrezabala did not move and diverted the leather. A story that repeats itself and fortunately it was not at the Bernabeu. Otherwise, the former PSG would have suffered the taunts of Madrid socios.
Bellingham’s useless goal
Mbappé partly made up for it later by being involved in the equalizer for his team. At the 79ewith a powerful shot, he forced the Basque goalkeeper to make a save. The ball was not caught and Jude Bellingham followed to send the ball deep. But the Merengue’s joy was only short-lived. Barely a minute later, Athletic regained their lead on the scoreboard thanks to Guruzeta. The latter took advantage of a big mistake from Federico Valverde to deceive Thibaut Courtois with a cross shot.
The score no longer changed and Real therefore had to lose once again. A setback which relegates Casa Blanca to four points behind Barça (with one game in hand). The critics will once again fight over Ancelotti and his flock and it is a safe bet that Mbappé is the one who will be most vilified.
