We (finally) know a little more about the draw for the Club World Cup, which will take place on Thursday. FIFA revealed this Tuesday the composition of the different hats, for the first edition of this XXL formula with 32 participants.
We wondered how FIFA was going to distribute the 12 Europeans and the 6 South Americans into hats of 8, and here is the answer. In Pot 1, we will find the 4 best European clubs in the UEFA index and the 4 best South American clubs. In Pot 2, we will find the 8 other Europeans. Pot 3 will be made up of the 2 other South American clubs, and the best clubs from Asia, Africa and North America.
PSG facing Di Maria, Neymar and Messi?
And Paris Saint-Germain, then? Thanks to its good ranking, the capital club was placed in hat 1, and will therefore avoid Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern. Luis Enrique’s men (if he is still in office) will face a European club, which will be one of the four lowest ranked: Atlético, Juventus, Benfica or Salzburg.
In pot 3, the most formidable opponents would undoubtedly be Boca Juniors, Botafogo or Al-Hilal, while in pot 4, the attraction will be Inter Miami. PSG could therefore have a group with Angel Di Maria (Benfica), Neymar (Al-Hilal) and Lionel Messi (Inter Miami). And to possibly find Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid, we will have to at least get out of the groups.
The worst possible draw for PSG:
-Paris Saint-Germain
-Atlético, Benfica or Juventus
-Boca Juniors, Botafogo or Al-Hilal
-Inter Miami
