It was the long-awaited match of the weekend in France. This Sunday evening, at the end of the 13th day of Ligue 1, Olympique de Marseille defeated AS Monaco with a score of 2 goals to 1.

Although trailing at the break, OM managed to turn the match around thanks to goals from Luis Henrique and Mason Greenwood late in the match. On the ASM side, it was Aleksandr Golovin who opened the scoring.

Thanks to this precious success, Roberto De Zerbi’s men take second place in the standings with 26 points ahead of AS Monaco on goal difference. For its part, the Principality club can blame itself. The Monegasques did not have to make the break but above all to consolidate their domination in the second period.

A playful and efficient Monaco in the first period

The whole of Ligue 1 was waiting for this top-of-the-table clash between Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco. Enterprising from the start of the game, AS Monaco directly displayed its ambitions in the game on the pitch at the Orange Vélodrome. Despite a lack of efficiency in the last gesture, the Monegasques nevertheless managed to make the difference just before the break.

Served by Denis Zakaria at the entrance to the area, Aleksandr Golovin does not tremble and propels his right-footed shot halfway into the back of the net. Rulli is beaten (1-0, 41st).

Marseille revolts and seizes its chance

As soon as they returned from the locker room, the Marseillais were quick to react and change the situation. More aggressive and inspired, the Phocaeans will quickly hit the mark. Neal Maupay takes advantage of an error by the Monegasque defense to find Luis Henrique in the area who pushes his ball with his head into the empty goal (1-1, 53rd).

Despite the multiple opportunities and Monegasque domination, OM will hold on defensively and make ASM crack in the final minutes of the match. Christian Mawissa deflects a cross from Amir Murillo into the area with his left hand.

After checking the VAR, Mason Greenwood does not tremble and transforms his penalty by wrong-footing Radoslaw Majecki (2-1, 89th).

The Phocaeans achieved a great deal of this day and will have to confirm their success during the next day on the pitch of AS Saint-Etienne. Opposite, Monaco will have to bounce back in front of their home crowd against Toulouse.
