Real Madrid legend Guti believes Kylian Mbappé is in trouble after Real Madrid’s defeat at Liverpool last night.
Real lost their Champions League match 2-0 at Anfield, with a penalty saved by Mbappe when the score was 0-1 to the Reds. On El Chiringuito, Guti said about the Frenchman: “It was Mbappé’s second big test, the first was the Clasico. And I think he didn’t live up to it, that’s obviously the reality.”
“We must protect Mbappé”
The former midfielder, however, did not want to overwhelm the Bondynois, while the latter has become the laughing stock of the whole of Europe:
“We would all like to know what happens to him. We see him without confidence, shy, even when taking the penalty, we see him with a frightened face? In this sense, he is the first to not be satisfied with his performance and to want something more.”
Like Ancelotti, Guti demanded that Mbappé benefit from full support within Casa Blanca:
“I think it’s a lack of confidence, and you add that the people of Madrid were waiting for him with great impatience, hoping for the best from him. He came out of his PSG bubble a little, where he had everything under control. He arrives in another team where he must compete with great players to be the best. Everything weighs, and the Real Madrid jersey weighs. It’s normal, it’s difficult to connect so quickly and so early to a club like Real Madrid, where it’s very difficult to play.”
“We have to protect him and that’s what the club does best. Florentino (Perez, president), the board and (coach Carlo) Ancelotti will protect him because we all believe in him, I still believe in him. It’s easy to criticize and say ‘he’s not worth it’, but I think he’s one of the best players in the world. It doesn’t change overnight, when you don’t play at a high level for many matches, it’s difficult to do so in a match like thisi,” he concluded.
