Real Madrid suffered a severe defeat (2-0) against Liverpool during the 5th day of the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti’s team, in offensive difficulty and overwhelmed in the game, showed its limits against one of the best teams in Europe.
However, the Italian coach was optimistic after the match, declaring on Canal+: “I think the team played a good match, we were competitive. At the moment, it’s the most complicated stadium to play in.” At a press conference, he added: “We defended well, the transitions were good. But we made bad decisions in the last move.” A speech far from the expectations of Madrid supporters who hoped for more self-criticism.
Injuries, Mbappé and hope for the future
Faced with criticism, Ancelotti highlighted the injuries affecting his squad, notably that of Camavinga, while hoping for the imminent return of Tchouaméni and Rodrygo. Concerning Kylian Mbappé, author of a missed penalty, he tried to minimize:
“He fought, he competed, but he lacked efficiency. Missing a penalty is complicated, but he has everyone’s support.” Finally, the Italian remains focused on the qualification objective, affirming: “We have to get into the top 24 and compete like always.”
