In 2013, Florian Thauvin joined Olympique de Marseille in the final moments of the summer transfer window, at the end of a tense standoff with LOSC, the club to which he belonged but for which he did not play any official matches. Marseille management then spent 15 million euros to attract the young French striker to the Marseille jersey.
However, this transfer did not only make people happy. Yohan Mollo, today an attacking midfielder at Istres, revealed on
TikTok that Thauvin’s arrival at Marseille had shattered his own ambitions to join the club. With regrets tinged with bitterness, he confided his incomprehension regarding this missed meeting.
“There is reason to be disgusted with football
“When Thauvin arrived at OM, I had to sign in his place”said Mollo. The latter also suggested that the choice of Vincent Labrune, then president of the Marseille club, would have been influenced by the common Orléans origin of Thauvin and the manager.
“However, at that moment, I am co-best passer in L1, I have just won a title (the League Cup with Saint-Etienne, editor’s note), I am ready for the demands of the high level, but the door was closed because of that. When you turn around, there’s reason to be disgusted with football”lamented the native of Martigues.
