With this new formula, we do not yet know how many points Paris Saint-Germain will need to qualify for the Champions League play-offs. But what is certain is that the capital club must take a careful and anxious look at the standings, after its new defeat conceded on Tuesday at Bayern Munich (1-0).
On the first results of Wednesday’s meetings, the news is rather good for PSG. Luis Enrique’s men even found a way to gain a place without playing, thanks to the defeat of Stuttgart. The German club, after opening the score, fell to Red Star Belgrade (4-1), and thus lost two places in the standings on goal difference. This allows PSG to temporarily move from 26th to 25th place, before the 9 p.m. matches.
PSG will go to Stuttgart
The other result recorded after the 6:45 p.m. matches, too, is rather favorable to the French champions. Girona lost to Sturm Graz (1-0), while the Catalan club could pass PSG in the event of a victory this Wednesday.
Note that Stuttgart will be Paris Saint-Germain’s last opponent during this unique group stage, during the 8th day next January. PSG will travel to Germany, and the results of the two days played in the meantime will tell whether the two clubs are still able to grab a place in the play-offs.
