Pep Guardiola has hit rock bottom, with the highly decorated Catalan coach having suffered the worst run of his trophy-laden managerial career with a final defeat against Tottenham.
Spurs eliminated City in the Carabao Cup on October 30, before doing it again in the Premier League on Saturday, leaving Manchester with a remarkable 4-0 victory. Between these setbacks, City found themselves pinned against Bournemouth, Sporting and Brighton in the Premier League and Champions League.
Many are suggesting that City’s bandwagon, which took them to treble glory in 2022-23, is being derailed. Much remains to be done on the pitch as the Citizens continue to battle a 115-count financial fair play case that has sparked speculation over points penalties or possible demotion.
City, lack of respect
Guardiola’s side have lost their fear factor, leading to little fish San Marino – who have enjoyed a historic period in the Nations League of late – mocking the star-packed Blues. Their popular X account, run by a passionate supporter, posted a message in response to City’s humiliating home defeat to Spurs:
“Hello, please play against us. I think we can beat you“.
City still have nine games left before reaching the January transfer window, where they will be able to spend again and strengthen their ranks – with Liverpool, Juventus, Manchester United and Aston Villa all expected to face before the end of 2024.
