FC Barcelona, leader of La Liga, will try to bounce back after a defeat just before the truce conceded against Real Sociedad. A hoped-for start on the Celta Vigo field on Saturday evening.
Despite their defeat on Basque soil, Barcelona remain six points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, while Celta drew 2-2 with Real Betis in their last match in the Spanish top flight .
Barça hopes for a start
Barça therefore remains the best team in the Spanish elite this season, with a record of 11 wins and 2 defeats in 13 matches, which places them at the top of the division with 33 points. Hansi Flick’s side are six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, but the reigning champions have a game in hand. Potentially, there is therefore only 3 points difference between the two rivals.
The Catalan club were on a seven-game winning run before their defeat to Real Sociedad, and they now have three matches to play against Celta, Brest and Las Palmas before the end of the month.
FC Barcelona’s last match before the winter break in Spain will take place on December 21 against Atlético de Madrid. It will be interesting to see how the standings evolve over the coming weeks, as Real Madrid have yet to find their stride this season.
