Recruited in the summer of 2022 by Real Madrid for a check for 80 million euros, Aurélien Tchouaméni arrived at Santiago Bernabéu with the ambition of taking over from Casemiro. Two years and more than 100 matches later, the French defensive midfielder is still struggling to achieve unanimous support within the Merengue club.
The 2022 world vice-champion is regularly criticized for his lack of creativity. This weak point is all the more visible in the Madrid midfield since the departure of Toni Kroos, retired since the end of the previous season.
“I didn’t like him”
According to Bojan Krkic Sr, a former FC Barcelona scout whose mission was to observe Tchouaméni, the ex-Monegasque had also attracted the attention of the Blaugrana. However, the recruiter was not convinced by the qualities of the Rouennais, which he considered insufficient to shine within the European elite.
“I spotted Tchouaméni two or three times in Monaco for Barcelona. In my reports, I always noted the same thing: he was strong, powerful, fast… but creative? No way. I didn’t like him. I didn’t think he was made for a big club.”declared the father of the former Barça prodigy, Bojan Krkic Jr for the Cadena SER.
