Santos financial director Norberto Goncalves has confirmed the club’s interest in Al-Hilal star Neymar and the feeling is said to be mutual.
Goncalves spoke to Flashscore Brazil on Thursday and discussed the possibility of bringing Neymar back to the club 12 years after his departure. “Neymar has incredible economic power wherever he goes”Goncalves said. “There is interest from Santos and also from him. If he comes, I won’t have to worry about the financial aspect. He pays himself, just with his presence, the sale of jerseys, tickets, etc. But it is a complex operation which does not depend only on the club or the player.”
Neymar back to basics?
Neymar’s contract with Al-Hilal expires at the end of the Saudi Pro League this season. Discussions are going well regarding his future and a return to the fold is emerging as the most likely option.
Goncalves admits discussions are so advanced that Santos bosses are considering the financial impact Neymar could have, even in retirement. “This partnership will be very profitable, even when he stops playing. There are associated brands, just like Santos and Pelé. There is already a project thinking about it and I hope it will come to fruition. He’s an exceptional athlete, I’ve known him since he played indoor football.”
