Thomas Lemar will soon have to be replaced by his club according to Madrid media.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Atlético Madrid are looking to sign a new central midfielder in January, despite the arrival of Conor Gallagher during the summer, as well as the increased profile of Pablo Barrios. The reason? Thomas Lemar will soon have to be replaced.

Lemar has struggled to get noticed at Atlético since suffering a serious injury at the start of the 2023-24 season. Last month he made his long-awaited return to action, although he is unlikely to be on the pitch before the winter transfer window opens.

When that happens, ED claims Atlético will do everything possible to find a new club for Lemar, who initially joined Los Colchoneros in 2018 for a reported fee of €70 million. A loan is more likely than a permanent sale, but given his salary, any departure will do over the winter.

Lemar’s time at Atlético Madrid has been extremely disappointing and is almost certain to end in 2025. Whether he leaves as early as January remains to be seen.
