Before the last month of competition of the year, OM are third in the Ligue 1 standings with 9 points behind the Parisian leader. The Phocaeans are also behind AS Monaco. However, there is one area where the Olympian team does better than all its French rivals.
In today’s edition, the daily La Provence highlighted the fact that in terms of points taken in away matches, Marseille is the best French team with 2.5 points/match. In six games played away from home, De Zerbi’s team won five times and lost once.
A double-faced OM
In the five major championships, only two teams have had a better away record since the start of the current season. It’s Bayern (2.66) and Liverpool (2.6). And behind OM, in addition to its national rivals, we find Barcelona (2.25), leader of the Spanish Liga, or even Inter (2.2).
Unfortunately, the contrast is striking with the record posted at home by the Phocaeans. They have only collected five points in as many games at the Vélodrome. “I’m going crazy not understanding why we can’t do at home what we do outside,”
lamented De Zerbi. The Italian technician, however, would sign for this anomaly to continue for at least a week given that his team faces Lens away this weekend.
