Angel Di Maria has named Facundo Buonanotte, the Brighton child prodigy on loan this season to Leicester City, as his heir in the Argentina team.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United winger retired from the Argentina squad this summer after winning two Copa América and the 2022 World Cup. When asked who will be his successor at the Albiceleste, he caught everyone off guard. Rather than mentioning Alejandro Garnacho and Julian Alvarez, he highlighted Buonanotte.
Di Maria advises Scaloni
“There are high quality players, and I really like Buonanotte”Di Maria told the Portuguese press. “
It’s not easy to get into the national team, but he’s a player that I really like. I think he can bring a lot to the team.”
Buonanotte did not play for his country this week and did not even make the 12-man bench when Argentina took on Paraguay and Peru, but after a strong start to his career at Leicester, the midfielder clearly has a bright future. Lionel Scaloni should certainly not delay calling on his services.
