Real Madrid are hit by an avalanche of injuries at the moment. Carlo Ancelotti’s defensive sector was particularly hit, with Éder Militão whose season is over, while there is still no news from David Alaba. Dani Carvajal is also out for the season, while his replacement Lucas Vazquez will also miss several weeks of competition. Today, Carlo Ancelotti has no professional right-back in the squad, and has, in the person of Antonio Rüdiger, only one central defender available.

Well, that’s not entirely true. In addition to the German, the Italian coach has another central defender available: Jesus Vallejo. Heralded as the future great Spanish central defender in a time not so long ago, he has only played 10 minutes this season, coming on as a substitute in a match against Alavés at the start of the season. Since then, nothing, and Ancelotti prefers to use players like Aurélien Tchouameni who are not professional defenders rather than trusting the 27-year-old Spaniard. Raúl Asencio – who is still part of Real Madrid Castilla for the moment – also passed him recently.

No chance for him

A shelving which does not only date from this season, since in the 2023/2024 financial year, he had barely exceeded 100 minutes of presence on the pitch. And obviously, it’s a very complicated situation for the main person concerned. According to the Madrid press, as Relevothe player took it badly to pass behind Asencio. He continues to work hard to have a chance, and he is presented as a model of professionalism. He is the first to arrive at training, and he also trains on his days off.

Enough to hope to convince Carletto and his staff? Still not. The Iberian media indicate that the opinion of the transalpine tactician and his deputies is clear: Vallejo does not have the level to play for Real Madrid. No matter how hard he persists and works, everything suggests that he will not have another opportunity. Rather appreciated in the Merengue locker room, Vallejo will therefore have to continue to be patient and come to terms with the fact that he has no future in Madrid…
