What if Luis Enrique only spent two seasons on the PSG bench? What seemed unthinkable now seems entirely possible. The Asturian coach is part of a continental giant.
According to the Spanish media Relevo, it is Atlético Madrid which is thinking of the coach of the French champions. The Matelassiers are starting to prepare for the post-Simeone era and the former Barça coach would be one of the candidates to succeed the Argentinian.
Luis Enrique back home?
This is not the first time that Atlético has thought about Luis Enrique. Before betting on El Cholo in 2011, they had already explored the possibility of betting on the former Spanish international. The latter was then at the very beginning of his coaching career.
Luis Enrique probably has not forgotten this interest. And so he may say yes to the call of the Rojiblancos. Despite everything, it would still be surprising to see him abandon the Parisian project midway. Especially since he keeps repeating that he is building for the long term and that the fruits of his revolution will be seen in the long term.
It is also worth noting that Luis Enrique is not the main favorite to take the reins of Atlético. Fernando Torres, the reserve coach and club legend, would be in pole position for this mission. The name of Mauricio Pochettino, although in charge of the United States selection, is also mentioned.
