What a reaction! Apathetic three days earlier against Israel at the Stade de France (0-0), Didier Deschamps’ men were able to react with authority and brilliance against Italy this Sunday in Milan, as part of the 6e and final day of the Nations League group stage.
Two months ago at the Parc des Princes, the French team lost 1-3 against this same Transalpine Nazionale – a score that the Blues were able to sign today to their credit. With the help of Adrien Rabiot and Lucas Digne who both celebrated their 50th on this occasione tricolor cape.
First place in the group snatched!
The first opened the scoring quickly, following a corner from the second (0-1, 2e). Digne continued with a superb free kick sent into the top corner, certainly with the help of the unfortunate Italian goalkeeper – a Vicario who then replaced at short notice an ailing Donnarumma (0-2, 33e). A break goal immediately followed by a reaction of opposing pride, with a nice collective movement concluded by Cambiaso (1-2, 35e).
In the second half, a new set piece perfectly placed by Digne on Rabiot’s head allowed the Blues to regain their composure (1-3, 65e). Anything but anecdotal since by rebuffing in this way and in such proportions, France beats Italy to the post to seize first place in the group. Already qualified for the quarter-finals of the League of Nations, Deschamps’ men will have the advantage of receiving the quarter-final return next March. With their sights set on qualifying for the Final Four in June.
