When he arrived from FC Porto in the summer of 2022, Chancel Mbemba quickly made his mark at Olympique de Marseille, so much so that the central defender became a centerpiece of the team. But two years later, the situation completely changed for him and with the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi on the Marseille bench this summer, the closet door was designated for him. Reinstated in the group, but knowing that he is no longer part of the plans, Chancel Mbemba hopes to leave as quickly as possible.
And why not this winter, as he confirmed in an interview with Canal+ Africa. “In life, you have to work, that’s the most important thing. (…) The most important thing is to remain courteous, I have a contract with my club. » Hired until next June, Chancel Mbemba would like to leave, which would allow OM to also benefit by selling him before he is free.
Mbemba hopes to leave in January
“Everyone knows I gave my all. (…) But we are not going to lower our heads and we are going to stay focused and continue to work. (…) I have a contract with Marseille. I hope to (leave) in January. » Very religious, Chancel Mbemba concluded: “When God doesn’t decide, it’s humans. Humans are complicated, everyone looks out for their own interests. But the most important thing is to do our job to satisfy everyone. »
For now, the defender is focusing on his national team in the Democratic Republic of Congo. On Saturday, Mbemba and his team lost at the very end of the match (1-0) against Guinea, during the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations. A first defeat without consequences for a DRC still clinging to its place leader of group H after five matches, with three points ahead of his tormentor of the evening.
