The Merengue club is no longer looking to sign already established, world-class stars, but rather to attract younger players who can develop significantly at Santiago Bernabeu. Rayan Cherki falls into this category.

Cherki has been part of Lyon’s first team since the age of 16, although he has failed to make as much progress as hoped over the past five years. Nevertheless, he remains a target for Europe’s elite and, according to L’Equipe (via CaughtOffside), Liverpool have explored the possibility of signing him in 2025.

Liverpool also on the spot

It is unclear whether Cherki would be interested in a move to Merseyside, but it appears that if he leaves Lyon, his preference would be to Real Madrid.

Cherki certainly has the potential to be a world-class striker, but it’s also true that Real Madrid don’t need him – they already have Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler as options on the right wing.
