Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits recruiting Cristiano Ronaldo in 2021 was a bad choice.

The Norwegian recognizes afterwards that the signing of the five-time Ballon d’Or at United could have brought balance to the team. Although Ronaldo scored a lot of goals on his return to United at the age of 35, he only lasted a season and a half before joining the Saudi Pro League.

Solskjaer also said his former assistant McKenna was the first to warn of the danger posed by the recruitment of Ronaldo. During a podcast with Norwegian media outlet NRK, he said:
“How are we going to defend ourselves? That’s the first thing he said to me. It was probably a bad choice for all of us. But we felt it was the right decision at that time.”

Solskjaer said McKenna analyzed Ronaldo’s final matches with Juventus the previous season and found that he was detrimental to the overall balance.
