It’s obvious: the winter transfer window will be lively in Madrid. Following the new wave of injuries which has hit the team, with the end of the season already in place for Éder Militão, the Merengues will recruit at least one central defender in January. Even if they are not particularly accustomed to doing so, this time, there is no choice: we will have to recruit in January.
Several names have already come out, such as those of Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba. But these are rather expensive avenues. The first, the big favorite, because the Al-Nassr club must be convinced to let him go, and the player would have to lower his salary considerably. As for Castello Lukeba, it is an operation that risks being very expensive, since the player has enormous odds, and Leipzig will not let him slip away in the middle of the season without a big financial reward.
A more economical option
And that’s where Jonathan Tah’s name comes into the picture. Already followed for a while by the Merengues, the German defender has a very interesting profile on a football level. But above all, his contractual situation puts Real Madrid in a position of strength, unlike what is happening with the Spaniard and the French. With a contract that expires in June, Bayer Leverkusen will have to sell him in the winter if they want to collect a check for the captain of their defense.
He should therefore be cheaper than Laporte and Lukeba, and has another advantage: he knows Antonio Rüdiger, his selection partner, very well. Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba are currently plan A and plan B, relegating Tah to the third plan. But by January, things could clearly change…
