Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan admits that the Citizens are not performing at the level they need to be.

The English champions are in trouble at the start of the season. They have notably lost four of their last four matches, in all competitions. The last time they had such a dark series was in 2006 under the leadership of Stuart Pearce.

Gundogan raises his voice

“The level is very high for us, but we set ourselves very high goals,” he said after the defeat against Brighton. “That’s why we are disappointed and frustrated with the way things are going right now. There is no other solution than to keep doing the right thing and believing in it. It is important that we are honest with ourselves and know what we can do better. We know that and we need to know that we need to get back on track – there is a responsibility to play for City. »

Even so, the Sky Blues are just five points behind Liverpool in the Premier League, giving Gundogan reason to be optimistic. “Expectations are high and that’s normal. “It’s something we’ve dealt with in the past and something we need to deal with in the future.”
