The international break is not so bad for Real Madrid. Since the start of the season, the Merengue club has only gone through areas of turbulence. Everything started well with a success in the European Super Cup against Atalanta. What followed was less glorious. Carlo Ancelotti’s team lost its balance, failed to replace Toni Kroos and the adaptation of Kylian Mbappé is becoming more and more talked about.
Ancelotti in the hot seat
The situation has become tense since Casa Blanca suffered two crushing defeats at the Bernabéu: against rival Barcelona (0-4) and against AC Milan in the Champions League (1-3). In the corridors of the Bernabéu, things are also tense. Florentino Pérez still does not understand why Jude Bellingham is struggling and especially why Mbappé is in far from optimal physical form. So many questions which gave rise to the first rumors about Ancelotti’s potential departure.
Florentino Pérez has proven it in the past, he knows how to be intractable even with the men who have made Real Madrid’s greatest successes. Hired by the Spanish giant in 2013, Ancelotti won the club’s long-awaited tenth Champions League in his first season, before being sacked a year later, in 2015. Returned in 2021 and winner of two new C1s (in 2022 and 2024), “Carletto” therefore knows full well that its president will not hesitate to activate his ejection seat if necessary.
Zidane still dreams of the Blues
To replace him, the Spanish media even had two candidates already found. The first is Xabi Alonso. A successful young coach, the former midfielder returned for a second season with Bayer Leverkusen, but he will not stay much longer at the end of the season. The other name mentioned is that of Zinedine Zidane. ZZ is the coach of three consecutive C1s and has already played the role of firefighter by returning to the Merengue bench (2019-2021) a year after his departure.
But according to Mundo Deportivothe 98 world champion would not be tempted by yet another comeback. The information should obviously be taken with a grain of salt since MD remains a pro Barça media. Still, the Catalan newspaper assures that Zidane maintains excellent relations with Pérez (who invited him to Mbappé’s presentation) and still lives in Madrid, but that he is still waiting for the position he has been coveting for several years: that of coach of the France team.
