Inter Milan suffered to win against Venezia. Despite a clear domination, the Interists only opened the scoring in the second half thanks to their Argentine striker.

Inter Milan hosted Venezia at San Siro for the 11th day of Serie A. The Lombards won by the smallest of margins thanks to a goal from their star, Lautaro Martinez, without ever really being worried by their opponents evening. The Milanese team quickly set the tone with a run from Barella in the 2nd minute, finally stopped by a Venetian defender. Lautaro Martinez scored one of the first strikes of the match, but his shot went wide of the visitors’ target.

The first half was largely dominated by the Nerazzurri with 63% possession compared to 37% for Venezia, but remained sterile. The Venetians, who set about defending, only shot twice, including a shot on target from Oristanio. Opposite, the locals tried their luck nine times, including four shots on target, but without realizing it. Thuram misses a great opportunity by sending his shot to the right of the goal (33rd), while Mkhitaryan sees his shot easily captured by Stankovic (35th).

Lautaro Martinez resolves the situation

Upon returning from the locker room, Inter experienced their first disappointment with a canceled goal. Served by Dimarco, Mkhitaryan thought he had opened the score with a shot sent into the right corner (51st), but after consulting the VAR, the referee canceled the goal for offside. This disappointment, however, was only a first warning for the Lagunari.

Fourteen minutes later, Dimarco does it again with a cross towards Lautaro Martinez, who deceives the Venetian goalkeeper at point blank range (65th, 1-0), thus signing his fifth achievement in ten league matches this season. Simone Inzaghi’s men finally take the lead after more than an hour of play.

The score will no longer change, despite a missed opportunity to widen the gap with a penalty which, ultimately, will not be awarded twenty minutes from time. Inter remain second in the standings, one point behind leaders Napoli, while promoted Venezia are still flirting with the relegation zone, in 17th place.
