Before buying SM Caen, Kylian Mbappé had considered becoming the owner of AS Monaco. Too expensive, the operation finally led him to Caen, where he began his club management adventure with an ambitious vision for Norman football.

Before becoming the majority shareholder of SM Caen, Kylian Mbappé attempted to acquire AS Monaco, his training club. According to Diario ASMbappé had initially targeted Monaco in 2023-24 when the Principality club was up for sale.

However, despite advanced research with its investment fund Coalition Capital, the operation was deemed too expensive. Finally, the 2018 world champion turned to Caen, where he acquired 80% of the shares for 15 million euros.

A first step for Mbappé in club management

Through SM Caen, Mbappé begins an ambitious new adventure off the field, with the support of his mother, Fayza Lamari, who helps him supervise the club. This acquisition marks the start of a broader vision for the French prodigy, who may one day attempt to purchase Monaco again.

For now, he is focusing on the development of Norman football, while keeping an eye on the future of club management in France.
