Manchester City is experiencing a real slaughter of injuries, reducing Pep Guardiola’s squad to just 13 players available. After the elimination against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup (2-1 defeat), the Spanish coach expressed his concern about the numerous withdrawals.
The latest, Manuel Akanji, injured during the warm-up, and Savinho, taken out on a stretcher after an ankle injury.
“We have 13 players available, so we are in great difficulty,” declared the Spanish technician.
An unprecedented situation for Guardiola at City
The Catalan manager, in office for nine years, has never faced an injury crisis of this magnitude. In addition to long-term injuries to Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Kyle Walker, City must also cope without Oscar Bobb, Jérémy Doku, and Jack Grealish.
“We have never been in a situation with so many injured,” he added. With a busy schedule, Pep Guardiola may well have to resort to new solutions to maintain the level of competitiveness of his team.
