It’s an understatement to say that Robert Lewandowski has had an incredible start to the 2024-25 season.

After scoring two more goals against Real Madrid on Saturday, the veteran striker now has 17 goals this season, including 14 in La Liga, and already twice as many as his nearest rival (Ayoze Perez, 7) in the race for the Pichichi Trophy .

Lewandowski’s 17 goals have come in 14 appearances, representing an average of 1.21 goals per game. If he were to maintain this form throughout the season, he would improve on his best ever goalscoring campaign, according to Diario AS.

Lewandowski shines again

During the 2020-21 season, Lewandowski scored 55 goals in 48 appearances for Bayern Munich. That represented an average of 1.15 goals per game, so for now, he’s on track to do even better, despite being 36 years old.

Lewandowski is enjoying a true renaissance this season, and it is perhaps no surprise that FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was the catalyst, as Flick was the Pole’s coach during the aforementioned season, during from which he scored 55 goals.

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers of the Ballon d’Or had chosen not to award a trophy in 2020. To the great dismay of the big favorite, Robert Lewandowski, who could well claim the Grail again next season if he maintains this shape.
