Ruddy Buquet’s Ligue 1 career ended at 310 matches. The Picard referee would have failed his last physical tests.

End clap for Ruddy Buquet. The native of Amiens will no longer officiate among the elite of French football, if we are to believe Bruno Derrien’s latest tweet.

“We will no longer see Ruddy Buquet on the league 1 pitches who failed the physical tests, wrote the former international referee on X. Let’s salute his career, I liked his way of refereeing, no complacency in his behavior. »

Aged 47, Ruddy Buquet has exceeded the old age limit, which was long set at 45 years old. But from 2014, the technical direction of arbitration (DTA) decided to grant itself more flexibility, while subjecting the referees to
“medical examinations and tests and physical tests”
to assess their abilities. On the other hand, he will be able to continue his career in Ligue 2, according to L’Equipe, because the tests are less demanding for that level.

A historic Ligue 1 referee

Ruddy Buquet will therefore hang it up with 310 Ligue 1 matches on the clock, the third highest total after Philippe Kalt (355) and Laurent Duhamel (317). He directed a Coupe de France final and two Coupe de la Ligue finals.

For several seasons, he was one of the major referees in French football. Between 2014 and 2017, Ruddy Buquet was named four times for clashes between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. On the other hand, he has never been designated for a World Cup or a Euro, and his experience in the Champions League is limited to 10 matches.
