Arriving free at AS Roma last September, Mats Hummels has not yet played a single minute in his new colors. Considered a Borussia Dortmund legend, the German defender nevertheless remained on the bench during each of the seven matches in which he was called up.
Ivan Juric, the Roma coach, justified this choice by designating it as a “backup option” for defender Evan Ndicka. “He will have his chances”, he said, without giving any guarantee on the playing time of the experienced Hummels.
Hummels full of humor
Even without having set foot on Italian pitches, Hummels keeps smiling, joking about his role as substitute. On Instagram, he quipped: “More @championsleague team of the season awards than minutes played so far”.
With Roma, currently 10th in Serie A, the German could bring his experience as soon as he finally gets his chance.
