Three days after its draw against Stade Brestois in the Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen traveled to Werder Bremen for the 8th day of the Bundesliga. Without Amine Adli, Xabi Alonso’s men were able to count on Victor Boniface, back on the field after his car accident and author of his 7th goal in the league this season (30th, 0-1), to take the advantage.

But Werder Bremen never gave up and pushed to come back to the score. This is also what the Greens and Whites managed to do, thanks to this powerful header from Marvin Ducksh (74th, 1-1). But the joy of Werder’s first home goal in the league this season was short-lived. A few minutes later, Felix Agu was under pressure from Jeremie Frimpong and beat his own goalkeeper (CSC – 77th, 1-2). But Werder once again showed character and got back on track at the end of regulation time with a superb strike from Romano Schmid (90th, 2-2). If Leverkusen pushed as often to snatch victory in the final seconds, Florian Wirtz’s teammates had to settle for a draw. Leverkusen nevertheless returned to the Bundesliga podium, while Werder Bremen remained in 9th place.
