The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who conceded all four shots on target for the Blaugranas, was harshly criticized for his performance, particularly by former legends of the club. Lothar Matthäus and Markus Babbel questioned his current abilities, pointing to a loss of efficiency and decisive errors.

Babbel notably joked about Neuer’s performances, in reference to his long absence after a broken leg, declaring that he “always plays with his ski boots on”. Matthäus, for his part, claimed that
“Manuel Neuer is no longer the same” and that he no longer saves his team like he used to. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the legendary goalkeeper’s future is more uncertain than ever.
