Manchester United believes it has found the rare bird within Sporting CP, the Portuguese club with which it often does business and from which it has notably sought out Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. His latest discovery is called Geovany Quenda.
Quenda is the latest talent to emerge from Sporting’s academy. After learning at Benfica, the 17-year-old was called up by Sporting coach Rubén Amorim for pre-season and his career has since taken off.
Manchester United smells a big blow
The young winger now starts on the right flank and has played 12 matches this season. Author of a goal in the Portuguese Super Cup against Porto, Quenda also made his debut in the league and the Champions League, thus becoming an indisputable starter.
His performances did not go unnoticed by Roberto Martínez. The Portuguese coach has called him up for this month’s Nations League matches.
According to A Bola, United would therefore have set their sights on him. The winger renewed his contract with Sporting in September until 2027 and his release clause was increased to 100 million euros. The gem is already as popular as Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has the same release clause.
