During an interview with the newspaper Marca, the 2014 world champion returned to the announcement of his retirement. The former number 8 reveals that he had difficulty announcing his decision to Carlo Ancelotti with whom he had formed a very strong relationship since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2014.
“The hardest thing was announcing my retirement to my son and Ancelotti. I remember when Carlo Ancelotti called me for the first time, it was during the 2014 World Cup. He told me he wanted me here in Madrid. I said Me too. But you just won the Champions League, why do you need me?
