Retired since the end of Euro 2024, Toni Kroos is starting his new and post-career. The German legend ended his adventure at Real Madrid in style by winning yet another Champions League.

During an interview with the newspaper Marca, the 2014 world champion returned to the announcement of his retirement. The former number 8 reveals that he had difficulty announcing his decision to Carlo Ancelotti with whom he had formed a very strong relationship since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2014.

“The hardest thing was announcing my retirement to my son and Ancelotti. I remember when Carlo Ancelotti called me for the first time, it was during the 2014 World Cup. He told me he wanted me here in Madrid. I said Me too. But you just won the Champions League, why do you need me? He went on to tell me that he absolutely wanted me and that I would make his team better. It was hard to announce my retirement to Carlo Ancelotti because we always had a great relationship. He was my first coach when I arrived here. But all good things must come to an end.” he blurted.
