As things stand, the Egyptian superstar’s contract at Anfield will expire in the summer of 2025. If no new terms are put in place, Salah – who has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League – will leave then free Merseyside.
He is, however, still in top form at the moment – in what is his eighth season with the Reds. Salah’s penalty in a 2-1 win over Chelsea took him to ninth place on the all-time Premier League goalscoring list with 162 attempts to his name. Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler leads him by one goal, while Arsenal great Thierry Henry peaks at 175 goals and Chelsea icon Frank Lampard has 177.
Salah wants to dethrone Henry
Carragher believes the opportunity to surpass icons of the game will serve as motivation for Salah during contract negotiations. The former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports: “He will have his eye on Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard between now and the end of this season. I think stats like these are one of the main reasons why Mo Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool.
“Of course they will talk about money and contract length, but I think those are the things that really get the juices flowing for Salah. He’s breaking all the records at Liverpool, but getting as far as he can in those lists is a big part of his goal as a player. I’m not saying he’s selfish, he’s obviously a great team player. »
