39 years and 40 days. Luka Modrić has just set a new record for the biggest club in the world. This Saturday evening, on the pitch of Celta de Vigo, the Croatian became the oldest player to play a match in the colors of Real Madrid by participating in his team’s victory (2-1). An active participation what’s more, because he delivered an assist for Vinicius Jr’s winning goal, just three minutes after his entry (66th).

With this record, he surpasses a legend of the Merengues and football, Ferenc Puskás. The Hungarian had established a mark at 39 years and 36 days which had stood since 1966 until Luka Modric came, as usual, to sweep away everything in his path. Far from being burnt out, the former Tottenham midfielder should increase the margin a little more each weekend, before why not becoming the first player in his forties in the history of Real Madrid.
