Madrid responds to Barcelona. Not just in La Liga, a few days before the first Clasico of the season at the Bernabéu. But also on the media scene between the two cities! Last week, the Barcelona city hall deputy for sport assured the regional press that the final of the 2030 World Cup awarded to Spain, Morocco and Portugal would be played in the renovated Camp Nou (105 000 seats) or in the future huge Casablanca stadium (113,000 seats). And not at the Santiago-Bernabéu of the capital, judged “too small” (80,000 places) by Catalan officials.
Result of the races: rant from the mayor of Madrid! “It’s obvious that we are working to make Madrid the host city of the 2030 World Cup finallaunched José Luis Martinez-Almeida. I can guarantee you that Real Madrid has done its job and that it is no longer my responsibility, but it would be strange not to see us as the best candidate and as the most appreciated by Fifa to host the final of the World Cup”.
The 2030 World Cup on three continents
As a reminder, after the 2026 edition in North America (all in the United States from the quarter-finals), the 2030 World Cup will begin with three opening matches in South America, in Argentina (at the Monumental in Buenos Aires), in Uruguay (at the Centenario in Montevideo) and in Paraguay (in Asuncion). The competition (with 48 teams) will therefore continue in Spain, Morocco and Portugal, but we do not yet know where it will end.
