This is the debate that has agitated England since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel on the selection bench was made official. No one questions his skills, but his German nationality bothers those for whom a coach should be of the same nationality. At a press conference, Arsenal’s Spanish coach, Mikel Arteta, said all the good things he thought of this choice. “I think he is one of the best coaches in the world. This points to an exciting future. I spoke to several players, they had smiles on their faces, it’s a good sign”he first commented.
Then he agreed to give his opinion on the nationality of the new England coach and the debate which is stirring public opinion, explaining that the English should be proud to attract so many quality coaches thanks in particular to their excellent welcome. “I would be very proud that many people and coaches would do everything to become England manager. As a foreigner, the way we are treated in this country, how much we love the passion, respect the history and the way things are done in this country… You feel so connected to the place where you are, even if you are not from here. Very few countries can say the same. The feeling I have is that it’s like I’m at home. I’ve been here 22 years, I feel that way about that. I feel welcomed, respected and inspired by this country. This is something you should be proud of as a country. »
