This summer, Olympique de Marseille conducted an ambitious transfer window, notably with the signing of Mason Greenwood among its star recruits. The English striker, pushed out by Manchester United due to accusations of domestic violence and threats of rape against him, had spent the previous season on loan at Getafe.
But to bounce back, the former star of the Red Devils finally chose to settle down in Canebière, even though he had the possibility of joining Lazio Rome in Serie A. Indeed, due to not being able to compete with OM in the negotiations, the Roman club had to resolve to see Greenwood go to Marseille.
Lazio tackle Greenwood
Despite this failure, Claudio Lotito, the president of the Biancocelesti, affirmed that he absolutely did not regret the non-signing of the player. The transalpine leader, however, took a dig at the Bradford native, going so far as to describe him as a “mercenary”.
“It’s absolutely not a regret. We don’t want mercenaries. He is happy in Marseille, Mason made a choice and it’s good. We do not accept mercenaries, we only want those who choose Lazio”, whispered Lotito.
