This summer, FC Barcelona tried to acquire Nico Williams. But the winger ultimately stayed at Athletic Bilbao. He returned to this episode during an interview with El Mundo. “At the end of the day, you have to live with it. Football works like this, with many interests from clubs, media, players… and there is always noise. It’s neither bad nor good, it is what it is and it doesn’t affect my performance. I continue to do the same work that I have done until now. Personally, it has also been a difficult time where you stop to think about many scenarios and it is difficult, but I have amazing family and friends who support me. I want to think that this won’t happen to me every summer.”

Then, he responded to Bilbao supporters who are angry with him for having declared that he would stay “one more year”. “I don’t think about it now. The fans are very happy that I’m staying here and I’m very happy to be here. Bilbao is my home, I want to continue enjoying it and the truth is that I am very happy. I’ve always seen things very clearly and I think people see that. I think I’m doing very well and trying to take Athletic to the top of Spain and Europe, with this final in San Mamés which we are so excited about. That’s the only thing that matters now.” That’s what it says!
