Manchester City will part ways with a club figure next June. Present since 2012, technical director Txiki Begiristain will be leaving.

His name is necessarily much less known than that of certain Manchester City players. And yet, the Premier League club will part ways with one of its most important figures next June. Present since 2012, Txiki Begiristain has been an essential element in the success of Skyblues over the last decade. Close to Pep Guardiola, the one who is still the technical director in charge of the athlete for a few months, has chosen to turn the page.

If Manchester City has been careful not to make the news official until now, the information of Txiki Begiristain’s departure was revealed by The Athletic. The media recalled that the leader should have even stopped much earlier, but that he chose to continue the adventure five years longer than planned. Now aged sixty, he will therefore hand over the reins. His replacement should arrive at the start of 2025 and benefit from Begiristain’s support until the end of the season.

Destiny linked?

Txiki Begiristain and Pep Guardiola have been linked since the Barça years since it was the first who pushed for the second to be appointed coach. It was again he who was able to convince Guardiola to join him at City. He played a major role in the recruitment of several players who have marked the recent history of the club, whether Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Rahem Sterling, Kylian Walker or even Bernardo Silva.

The big question in England now is whether Pep Guardiola will also leave. At the end of his contract with Manchester City next June, the Spanish tactician has still not extended and seems to be thinking about the rest of his career. A second hard blow to come for the Skyblues
