Following the refusal of his captain to take part in the last gathering of the Blues, the French coach finds himself in an uncomfortable situation.

Didier Deschamps finds himself at the heart of a controversy which he would have happily done without. Kylian Mbappé did not wish to participate in the last gathering of the France team, as part of the League of Nations. Favoring his club, Real Madrid, the 25-year-old striker will therefore not participate in the Blues’ match against Israel on Thursday, nor in that against Italy on Monday, October 14.

For Eric Di Meco, this decision by the native of Bondy embarrasses Didier Deschamps.
“There is a real uneasiness in this story. The way we communicated from the start shows that nothing is going well. Players who don’t come to the French team have always existed, there are some who did it because they thought about their body, their shape, their club… Except that there is a way of doing it, and there is all the communication, the timing around it,” analyzed the sports consultant on RMC.

Mbappé/Deschamps, the embarrassed coach

And the former left-back continued: “There’s nothing wrong. Didier (Deschamps) explains to us on Thursday that Kylian Mbappé will stay at the club to rest because he is coming off an injury, that everything was done by mutual agreement… I think Didier learned of Mbappé’s tenure as us on Saturday, and I think he was amazed. Behind, when we ask him to account, because everyone was surprised this weekend, it’s a big discomfort.”

This Tuesday, late in the morning, Ibrahima Konaté and Christopher Nkunku presented themselves at a press conference. Which is not the case for the French coach, who will in any case be obliged to raise the case of his captain. Probably Thursday evening, after the match against Israel.
