After a long journey through the desert marked by injuries, Christopher Nkunku finally finds his way back to the French team. The French international looks back on this sad chapter of his career.

Christopher Nkunku is preparing to put on the French team jersey again for the Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium on October 10 and 14. The Chelsea striker makes his return after a long injury-related absence.

These physical problems not only deprived the player of Euro 2024, but also of the 2022 World Cup. At a press conference, Nkunku, who is having a good start to the season with the Blues (7 goals in 11 matches in all competitions ), returned to this complicated passage in his career.

“The hardest period was…”

“I went through very difficult stages psychologically. They are also adventures that make you stronger, it taught me to know my body, patience and resilience,” said the former Paris Saint-Germain player, whose last appearance in the rooster jersey dates back to June 19, 2023, against Greece (1-0 victory), during the Euro qualifiers.

Nkunku admitted to having particularly suffered from his absence during the World Cup in Qatar. However, he is convinced that his return to his best level is only a matter of time.

“(…) The hardest period was missing the 2022 World Cup. (…) I have come a long way, the injuries are behind me. The goal is to stay fit and healthy. I want to enjoy and have fun on the pitch. I’m getting back to my level in terms of feeling. For the rhythm, it will come back with playing time,” he declared to the media.
