In Ligue 1, he had no competition, or almost. Before leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé won six consecutive titles as top scorer in the championship, a performance never seen before in France. But if he doesn’t want his series to end in Spain, the Bondynois will have to accelerate.
With five goals since the start of the season, the captain of the France team is far from ridiculous. But it is twice less than the total posted by Robert Lewandowski, “pichichi” of La Liga in 2022-2023, and now big favorite for the race for the trophy.
Mbappé, significantly worse statistics
The Pole struck hard by scoring a hat-trick on Sunday at Alaves to give Barça victory (0-3). The former Bayern and Dortmund player scored three goals from play in this match alone, which is more than Mbappé has scored since the start of the season. Of the Frenchman’s five goals, three were scored.
Generally speaking, the statistical comparison hurts Mbappé. Lewandowski’s average, who scores a goal every 74 minutes in La Liga, is much better than that of the Madrilenian, who almost needs double (a goal every 136 minutes). The Pole, even if he scored twice as much as Mbappé, had fewer shots on goal than the Frenchman, with 36 shots compared to 42. And he only hit one penalty, out of his 10 goals. For the moment, it is he who largely dominates their duel at a distance.
