Kylian Mbappé’s decision not to join the France team continues to spark controversy.

The Real Madrid striker spoke to Didier Deschamps midweek ahead of the squad list announcement for two Nations League matches. The Blues will play away matches against Israel and Belgium in the coming days, but Mbappé will not be there.

Deschamps and Mbappé have reached an agreement for the striker to stay at Madrid so the 25-year-old can focus on returning to fitness.

The France manager is said to be annoyed that Mbappe started Real Madrid’s 2-0 La Liga win over Villarreal as he has not been declared ready to play for the France team.

However, the decision has been made and Deschamps will look for a replacement to wear the captain’s armband, for the first time in over 12 months. Mbappé’s teammate, Aurélien Tchouameni, is one of the options, according to information from L’Equipe, after a good start to the season, alongside central defender William Saliba.
