OGC Nice lost on the lawn of Lazio Rome this Thursday for the 2nd day of the Europa League (1-4).

A week after an encouraging draw against Real Sociedad (1-1), theOGC Nice rubbed shoulders with another high-sounding name in this regular phase of the brand new Europa League formula. The Aiglons challenged Lazio Rome at the Olympic Stadium.

A perilous journey to rub shoulders with a team experienced in continental games. And this Italian team approached this match as a favorite since it had impressed when it entered the fray, winning 3-0 in Ukraine against Dynamo kyiv (3-0). A status which was verified in this balance of power, since the Roman club largely tamed the Aiglons in this one-sided match (4-1).

Nice was no match

The Italians unlocked the match after a quarter of an hour thanks to Pedro (1-0, 20th), before taking the break a quarter of an hour later through Castellanos (2-0, 35th). Under torrential rain, Nice had the merit of reacting immediately, Boga reviving his team’s hopes by finding the net before the break (2-1, 41st).

But the second act largely turned in favor of Lazio. Castellanos added his double to widen the gap quite quickly (3-1, 53rd). Then it was Zaccagni’s turn to improve his statistics by converting a penalty to complete the victory for the Roman club (4-1, 67th). Still looking for a first success in this Europa League campaign, Nice will have to react quickly.
